Flexing Our Business Intelligence Muscle – Education Edition



Zehnder's Business Strategy team was engaged to consult with the information technology office of a major public university's medical school. The client was gaining notice within the university for providing excellent service to their constituents, and as a result additional schools and departments were interested in retaining our client's services.

The client desired assistance with quantifying, planning for and managing the subsequent growth that would need to follow in order to on-board the increased user base. Our engagement centered around developing a plan capturing the best path forward and detailing how the client could expand their service offerings to a wider array of departments within the university, while maintaining high levels of service quality.

Our project kicked off with a collaborative process to define the desired future position, which we uncovered through a series of meetings and interviews with the senior leadership team of the client. We then performed a situational snapshot that captured the organization's current capacity and skill level. Comparing the present and planned future versions of the organization, we developed a gap analysis to highlight the differences and identify the needed changes. We then envisioned and prioritized a series of projects through which the client will incrementally build their team to reach their goals.

Our efforts culminated in a comprehensive, 100+ page report highlighting the proposed process to, and resulting benefits of, transitioning management of information technology services from disparate schools and departments to our client. Based on our discovery, analysis and implementation plan, the university chancellor accepted the suggested plan and the client was successful in growing their constituent base. We remain engaged to ensure that the client can continue to manage their internal growth effectively, that they maintain high customer service levels and that they continue to expand their user base.
